Castelo Rodrigo

[PT]

Getting to Castelo Rodrigo is similar to entering the Alentejo interior, a sensation already felt when I visited Almeida. It is a small historic village, around the ruins of the Palace of Cristóvão de Moura, and one more option of rural tourism.

The line of ramparts seen when arriving by car in the shape of semi-circular turrets, the arches of the medieval cistern, and the entrance doors to the village are the architectural details that I liked the most.

The way the houses are re-used, although there is a lot of reconstruction work to do, and the details placed on them are always a surprise in the typical calmness of another inland village.

On a hot summer's day I'd say that Castelo Rodrigo was a village with windows to the sky and a door to the sun (one of the three entrances has an east orientation and is called "sun gate").
